moon lit desert

everyone part of our creative team always talk about road tripping across the american desert, so we decided to take matters into our own hands and find a little piece of palm springs here in sydney to shoot in one afternoon instead. we drove towards the sunset to our location and photographed well into the night. in the background, dirt bikes growled over dirt mounds, headlights from their bikes lonelily wandering in the desolate landscape in the distance. we listened to music loudly and tripped over the rugged ground more times than we could count while we were shooting under the bright moon. poor lidija had what looked like wolf claw marks on her legs, dan stepped on an ant mound and we were all attacked by mosquitos as the night settled in. i think it was all well worth it though in the end run and i can't wait for our next shoot together which we've started planning! lots of exciting things to come (not to mention some behind the scenes from this day which will be blogged soon!).

where the wildflowers grow

i first photographed terri in london last year while we were working on the paul edmonds campaign. while she was in sydney a few weeks ago, i just had to put something together so we could meet up and shoot again! we set out one sunny morning to shoot in a forest with beautiful colourful clothes sent to me by some wonderful brands. crossing paths again has made me miss europe so much and i can't wait to go back again very soon.

in the days of never ending sunshine and a wonderful warmth on your skin, i photographed alexandra redmond's latest jewellery collection. we took photos at the beautiful boat house on balmoral beach and as the clouds rolled over the sky and water drops started trickling in, we continued to photograph alex's brightly coloured necklaces in the rain.

you can see the entire collection on her website!

legends never die

my eyes wrinkled around the edges as i looked across the field. when we played baseball together we didn't have to think or keep score, we just threw the ball and caught it with a big thud in the palm of our hands. i could feel beads of sweat dripping down my neck as we played on the dry grass under the scorching sun, we couldn't take it anymore.

we headed to the local swimming pool. the rusted fence rattled and trembled under our weight as we climbed over, metal crashing against metal and puffs of dirt flying up as our shoes hit the ground when we jumped from the top. we always came here to cool off after a game and i would always search for her. i was mesmerised by her smile, her carelessness, her summer hair. she told us legends never die.

suzi rose lookbook: the wanderer

we all met early in the morning at the beach and covered the sand in suzi rose's new collection of pastel coloured & sequin garments, all beautifully glimmering in the sun. we spent the rest of the day photographing this on location lookbook. this is suzi rose's latest collection, the wanderer.

salt on your skin

i am a flower leaning towards the hurricane that is you.

this was a magical afternoon spent photographing and filming with wonderful friends. we had shot with ivy once before, and we all decided we had to shoot again before she left australia for her next adventure. and so one morning we left home without too much of a plan. we all met up and drove around, passing trees and mountains and empty roads, all leading to a beautiful, desolate beach.

the wind was harsh and the air was filled with a thick mist of salt, making your eyes water and your skin dry. you could see it in the distance everywhere you looked; white puffs leaving the ocean and drifting towards the mountain.

we stayed here and photographed for the rest of the afternoon. it was cold but while we photographed you could almost forget everything around you. the sun shone warm for a few seconds here and there, peeking out from behind the clouds before quickly nestling for day behind the mountains. this is when we shot probably some of my favourite photos ever. a splash of red in an ocean of never-ending blue.

I spent the second day of the year photographing with friends in a big natural lagoon, my camera almost kissing the edge of the water while my shutter clicked. We pulled soft white and flowing dresses from our own wardrobe to style it all and stopped to talk by the water in between photos. It was such a fun day and I look forward to every time I get to catch up with these amazing and talented girls! We spent our last photoshoot together taking low light portraits in the forest.

2013

2013

it's december and this year has flown by quickly. i'm not sure where to begin with recounting it all, it was a big one for sure. somewhere between lulling sleeps on noisy airplanes, walking through the rain in the sweltering heat and spending quiet moments reminiscing and enjoying the little nothings, i feel like i found myself somewhere along the way. i guess i'll start right at the beginning.

the year started slow. by january i felt overworked and tired & photography had lost it's magic. colours were dull and i had no interest in documenting or creating. i'm still not sure if it was just a random lull in creativity or if something had really gotten under my skin but i am so thankful for my first shoot of the year early february that pulled me right out the water, and i gasped and kicked around feeling so lucky to be breathing again. this is when i met the wonderful lisa fahey and megan emmett. we explored the hills on the beachside and shot in between mountains and crashing waves while the sun turned to honey. it was just what i needed. it reminded me that photography didn't need to be complicated or hard. it was whatever you let it be.

by march, something amazing was brewing and my positivity was having a lovely effect on the world around me. i booked a job to shoot a campaign in london. it was april when dan and i were on a plane photographing clouds and l.a. from above. after more than twenty hours of traveling, we landed in london and began our running around. we spent two amazing weeks there and we instantly fell in love with the place and are always longing to go back.

when we arrived back home, we had more motivation and energy than ever. i was shooting non-stop & dan created i make films and officially started filming alongside me. it's been so lovely to have him by my side this year, when we are together i feel like we can achieve anything. we also launched swoon weddings, which has been growing and slowly blossoming. all our shoots seem to seamlessly flow and we've become in tune with weaving in and around one another without taking our eyes away from the viewfinder.

on top of it all, we have also become very close friends with some of the most amazing people ever through all our shoots and little get together's in between. the friends i made this year are people i will never forget and feel so blessed to have met.

i think it's important after a whole year of hard work, long nights, early mornings, long drives, beautiful sunsets, lovely conversations and probably way too much coffee to just sit back and appreciate everything you've done. this has been my favourite year ever. i've achieved more than i ever thought would be possible and i still feel so much energy and fire burning within me. 2013 was beautiful, and i can't wait to see what adventures next year brings. i already have plans for big shoots and places i'd love to visit. it's all going to happen.

these are some of my favourite moments and photos from this year:
