The Sigma 35mm f1.2 is the worlds first autofocus 35mm f1.2 lens for Sony E-mount full frame cameras. I will be using it for portrait photography on the Sony A7III at a wide open aperture of f1.2 in natural light. In this Sigma 35mm f1.2 review video I share how this lens performs at a real-world photoshoot. I include 100% crop SOOC photos to see the image quality and sharpness of this lens. While it felt like the lens was slower to focus compared to my GM and Zeiss lenses I normally use on the A7III, I was surprisingly impressed with how tack sharp the final images were on my subject’s eyes at f1.2. The Sigma 35mm f1.2 is a large and heavy lens, however with the image quality it produces it’s definitely one worth carrying around.
This is my first blog post of 2021!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and I hope this year has some great things in store for us all. This is a spring photoshoot I did last year around cherry blossom season. It was a wild rush to get this photoshoot together as cherry blossom season is super short and these beautiful trees are not that easy to find. Dan and I spent a weekend location scouting, we were driving around the suburbs looking for the right tree for about 3 hours when we came across these 2 - that not only looked beautiful, but were in the perfect spot to be able to use backlight for my portraits.
These 2 trees were in someone’s front yard RIGHT next to their front door - so I had to knock on the door, introduce myself and ask if I could come back during the week to do a photoshoot here. Luckily the lady who answered the door was absolutely lovely and was happy for us to shoot! We came back that week and created this set of photos.
Watch the behind the scenes of how we took these photos in my video down below and hear all my thoughts about this lens.
