The XF 50mm f1.0 is a Fujifilm prime lens rendering sharp and dreamy looks for portrait photography. I am using the XF 50mm f1.0 on the Fujifilm X-T4 which has an X-trans APSC sensor. This 50mm is the full frame equivalent to around 76mm.
This XF 50mm f1.0 I was using during this portrait photoshoot was a pre-production lens. Because of this, I decided to use a manual focus point throughout the afternoon. I was able to capture some tack sharp photos on the eyes at an extremely shallow depth of field.
This lens reminded me of the Canon 85mm f1.2 II or even the RF or GM 50mm f1.2. With portrait photography, the eyes are tack sharp and rest of the skin texture melts away. I find this is SUCH a flattering look for portraits!
Watch the behind the scenes video of our photoshoot below to see unedited, SOOC images and to hear the rest of my thoughts on this lens. I put the XF 50mm f1.0 through some tests including capturing movement at wide open apertures with a fast moving subject. We also take back light portraits to see how well it focuses and if there is any chromatic aberration.
All in all, this XF 50mm f1.0 is an absolutely gorgeous lens and a must-have for any Fujifilm portrait photographers out there! The bokeh is beautiful, it's tack sharp and the image quality is great as well. As an added bonus, this lens has a wonderful lens flare when shooting with back light. There are no prominent shapes or colours, it melts into the photo further adding to this lens' dreamy look.
