The Nikon Z8 is a 46 megapixel full frame camera, featuring a fully electronic shutter. During this portrait photoshoot with the Z8, I am using 2 lenses. The Nikkor Z 35mm f1.8 S and Nikkor Z 85mm f1.2 S. Watch my behind the scenes video to see the SOOC unedited photo at 100% crop. The photos in this blog post are my final, edited version of the images from the Nikon Z8.
The Nikon Z8 is a flagship camera, second to the Z9. It is a bit of a heavy camera body at 910 grams, but I never felt the weight get in the way of me using it. It felt very balanced and comfortable in my hands. The Z8 features a physical button for Release Mode to switch between single frame shooting, continuous low and high speed, etc.
It has a tilt screen which I personally find is more useful for photography compared to a flip screen. You are also able to turn this tilt screen 90 degrees portrait orientation if you are shooting from a tricky angle. The Nikon Z8 has a full sized HDMI port and dual card slots. One slot is a UHS-II SD slot and the other is a CF Express Type B or XQD slot. I would have loved to have seen dual CF Express Type B in both slots like the Z9.
The Z8 is a camera aimed at pro photographers and can be used anywhere from sports photography to landscape photography. In my niche of portraits, I can see this camera being used for weddings and fashion photography due to some features such as: RAW 20 fps silent black out free shooting, autofocus speed and the 46 megapixel files are a decent size to work with, not just for portraits but any genre of photography.
