After spending our morning in Milan, Dan and I started our long road trip to the Italian Alps. What started off as just highway for about an hour, quickly turned into one of the most beautiful and scenic roads I’ve ever been on - mountains surrounding us and so many quaint little houses and endless vineyards built into every corner of the mountains.
Since we were on a highway still, there weren’t too many places we could pull over to take pictures but you can see all the view along the way in my vlog! I also vlogged every day while we were in Italy, and you can check out all those videos on my YouTube Channel.
We fell asleep to the sound of rain and woke up at a cold 5am ready to catch the sunrise at Pragser Wildsee also known as Lago di Braies. Since this lake is surrounded and thus sheltered by mountains, it was a perfect mirror reflection early in the morning duplicating the landscape surrounding it. It is honestly one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen in my life and I still look back on our early mornings here wondering if it was really real.
Dan and I spent the next couple of days driving around the Dolomities, stopping every few seconds on the side of the road for photos because South Tyrol is actually one of the most picturesque places I’ve ever been lucky enough to visit. We visited Lago di Braies several times, saw the Dolomites, visited the World UNESCO Heritage Site and basically were just constantly in awe of the landscapes around us.
One of my favourite and most memorable moments was driving back towards our accommodation and noticing all this fog building up on the surface of a lake. We quickly turned off the road, parked and started walking towards it to take photos, it was so quiet and absolutely peaceful. While we taking pictures, the fog quickly started travelling towards us and soon enough we were drenched in rain but I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.
It was hard to leave the Italian Alps. It was only day 3 of our week in Italy, but it had quickly become one of my favourite places I have ever travelled to in the world. I know I’ll be back one day! For now, our road trip continues and we make our way from the Alps to Venice which all the photos will be coming from there in my next blog post!
