Overcast and cloudy weather are usually a portrait photographer's favourite conditions for a photoshoot. I personally prefer sunny conditions for my photoshoots and making the most of the short but dreamy golden hour. I do love the occasional opportunity to bring a moody vibe to my work when it's overcast. Watch the behind the scenes of our shoot to hear my tips on how to make the most of cloudy weather for photography. I am shooting on the Canon 5D mkiv and the Canon 35mm f1.4 II.

It's 2019 and I’m so excited to be back for a fresh year of new photoshoots and videos! This was my first photoshoot of the year at a beautiful beach in Sydney. It rained pretty much the entire time we were taking photos, but we made the most of it! Georgia the model was such a trooper and laid down fully clothed in the wet sand. I took some of my favourite portraits ever such as this closeup shot above. We also filmed a behind the scenes video which you can watch below to see how we shot these images.

Overcast weather seems easy to shoot in as you don't have to think about the direction of your light. However, I do think there are still many aspects of a cloudy day that you need to keep in mind for portrait photography. I share my tips on getting the most amazing overcast portraits in my video. I use aspects from colour, composition and lighting to help my subjects stand out during a gloomy day.
