iPhone 14 Pro Max Camera Review
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max features a main camera of 48 megapixels. Throughout this review, I am capturing photos in both JPG and RAW. When in JPG mode, the iPhone 14 Pro produces 12 megapixel files. To access the full 48 megapixel sensor, you need to shoot in Apple ProRaw.
The main camera of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the full frame equivalent of 24mm. This is a focal length I personally love using for general photography on my mirrorless camera. The main camera uses an aperture of f1.78 - this is not a full frame equivalent aperture.
Watch my photoshoot behind the scenes review video below to see 100% crops of the 48 megapixel iPhone 14 Pro Raw photos. The files are really beautiful to work with! You can see plenty of detail, the colours are bright and the tones are balanced.

IPHONE 14 PRO MAX ULTRAWIDE PHOTOS
The iPhone 14 Pro Max uses a 12 megapixel ultrawide camera. This camera is the full frame equivalent focal length of 13mm. Ultrawide has a 120 degree field of view and an aperture of f2.2. Below are my iPhone 14 Pro Max ultrawide photos:
IPHONE 14 PRO MAX 2X ZOOM PHOTOS
The iPhone 14 Pro Max 2x zoom function is enhanced by the quad-pixel sensor and creates a 12MP file. 2x digital zoom is the full frame equivalent of 48mm. Following the iPhone 13 Pro Max, it's great to see we now have a higher quality zoom option between the main camera and telephoto camera. On the iPhone 13 Pro Max the gap between the main camera's 26mm and telephoto 77mm was a huge jump. On the iPhone 14 Pro Max this year, we can now make use of 2x zoom which is the full frame equivalent of 48mm. The 14 Pro Max also has up to 15x digital zoom available. Below are my iPhone 14 Pro Max 2x zoom photos:
IPHONE 14 PRO MAX 3X TELEPHOTO PHOTOS
The iPhone 14 Pro Max features a 12 megapixel 3x optical telephoto camera. This telephoto camera is the full frame equivalent focal length with an aperture of f2.8. This iPhone 14 Pro telephoto camera shines when taking close up portraits. I noticed it struggled to keep focus on the subject when taking full body photos in a busy location.
Watch my review video to see a RAW vs JPG photos from the iPhone 14 Pro side by side. If you don't want to see the JPG processing on your images, such as the harsh sharpening, I would recommend to shoot in ProRaw. The RAW files prove that so much processing is not needed for the JPG files. I personally prefer the softer look of the RAWs, let me know what you think!
Another feature I would have loved to see on the iPhone 14 Pro is a telephoto camera with a higher resolution sensor. It would be great to be able to capture 48 megapixel files in telephoto mode like the main camera. On the Pixel 6 Pro last year we had a 48 megapixel telephoto camera which looked so beautiful. I would have thought they would try to match this feature on the iPhone 14 Pro Max this year. Below are my iPhone 14 Pro Max 3x telephoto photos:
IPHONE 14 PRO MAX VIDEO EXAMPLES
Finally, watch my review video above to see video tests of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. I film shots of Luisa in 4K 60p with the main camera. I make sure to walk and move around as much as possible during these video shots so we can see how IBIS works. All the footage shared in the video is completely unedited, so you can see what it looks like straight out of camera. I also share 4K 60P video footage in ultrawide, 2x zoom and with the 3x telephoto camera.
