The Sigma 85mm f1.4 ART lens is a budget-friendly, third party alternative to Canon's discontinued Canon 85mm f1.2L II lens. During this portrait photoshoot, I am using both lenses on the full frame Canon 5D mkiv camera body. The photos in this blog post are edited and mixed up between both lenses - let me know if you can guess which one is which!
The Sigma 85mm f1.4 ART is an EF mount lens I am using on the Sony A7iii. The Sigma AF 85mm F1.4 EX DG HSM Art is a budget friendly portrait photographer's dream lens. The 85mm is perfect for portrait photography due to its telephoto nature and this Sigma version is no exception.

If you've ever felt stuck with giving direction to your subjects during a portrait photoshoot, then this tutorial is for you! In this "How to pose people who are not models" video, I share with you some simple posing tips and tricks that you can use at your next photoshoot.
In this portrait photoshoot behind the scenes video, I am using the Canon 5D mk4 with the Canon 35mm f1.4 II lens for portrait photography. We had an overcast morning at the beach for this photoshoot, so the soft light helped with taking great portraits of Tyler. I have a tutorial on how to take better photos during overcast weather here if you’re interested. I made use of the rocks at our location to add some texture and interest to the portraits I was taking. I also love the shark net at this beach, so we made use of that with some different styles of portraits as well.

In today's video we are comparing the Sony A7III to the Canon 5DmkIV in low light while taking portraits. I was using the Canon 35mm f1.4L lens on both cameras and kept the settings on both cameras the same throughout each situation. Watch the video to see camera settings, etc. I hope you enjoy the video and let me know what you think in the comments! The Canon 35mm f1.4 mark 1 has been my favourite Canon lens since I upgraded to the Canon 5Dmkii. I use the 35mm prime focal length heavily for fashion, portrait and wedding photography.
During today’s golden hour portrait photoshoot, I wanted to try the Canon 50mm f1.2 L portrait lens adapted to the Sony A7III. I am using the Metabones 4 adaptor, updated to the latest firmware. In the video I share with you the eye AF performance and autofocus accuracy of what it’s like shooting with Canon lenses adapted to Sony. I also share SOOC photos for you to have a look at the image quality as well. Please subscribe to my channel, I upload new photography tutorials every single week!

Today we are testing out how the Canon 85mm f1.2L II works on the Sony A7III with a Metabones adaptor. I decided to do a photoshoot in harsh sunlight to experiment with something different, and I'll do another photoshoot soon with the 85mm in softer light so we can compare results.

For this countryside portrait photoshoot I was taking photos on the Canon 5D4 and the Canon 35mm f1.4 II lens. This was my first time taking the Canon 35mm f1.4 II for a portrait photoshoot and I was so excited to be using it! I noticed straight away that the autofocus was faster than the Canon 35mm f1.4 mkI version of the lens and the final images were so much sharper.
I have since done many portrait photoshoots on the Canon 35mm f1.4 II. One of my favourites is this golden hour session with Kristina where we captured lots of movement on the 5D4.

As a Canon shooter my entire photography career, this was my first portrait photoshoot experience with the Sony A7III. I recently borrowed the Sony A7II from a friend and took it to a beach portrait photoshoot session and a golden hour portrait session to test it out. I enjoyed using the Sony A7II so much realising there were a lot of benefits to shooting on mirrorless compared to a DSLR.
I have been using Canon since the Canon 5D mkII. I then upgraded to the Canon 5D mk3 as soon as it was announced for the dual card slots and finally upgraded again to the Canon 5D mk4.
After using the Sony A7II, following week I decided to buy a Sony A7III. Compared to the Sony A7II, the A7III had some key features I was interested in. The A7III has a touch screen, it also has eye AF. Compared to the A7II which only had face detection. The A7III also has higher dynamic range and better low light sensitivity which is important to me as a wedding photography.
Another big factor of getting the A7III is the video capabilities. I wanted a camera that I could do my portrait photography and wedding work on. At the same time, I wanted to travel with this camera and have the option to film video and take photos.
With mirrorless you have a lot of added benefits to help you out as a photographer. Compared to my Canon DSLR, the A7III uses phase detection to focus, making it easier to focus in back-light. You also have eye AF to nail focus on the eyes while shooting with fast apertures of f1.2. This isn't impossible to do on DSLRs, but it definitely makes your life a lot easier. The Sony A7III is also much smaller and lighter to the Canon 5D mk4 which is great for travelling and long days of photography.
But back to this video! This was my first photoshoot I was able to take my new Sony A7III for a test run. We did a natural light portrait session in these gorgeous gardens. Since I was a Canon user, I only had Canon lenses. I decided to use the Metabones 4 adaptor (which came with the camera) so I could shoot with the camera as soon as possible
The eye AF and autofocus performance is okay with adapted lenses. You can still capture sharp photos with a setup like this. But to experience the full benefits of the eye AF and performance of a camera like the Sony A7III, I would recommend to use native lenses as soon as you can. My first Sony lens I purchased was the Zeiss 35mm f1.4.
Since this day I have now completely switched systems from Canon to Sony and have been extremely happy.
Watch the behind the scenes video below to hear some of my thoughts of switching from Canon to Sony and please subscribe to my channel! I upload new photography videos every single week.

Last week, Dan and I had the chance to visit Fiji for a wedding we were capturing. We decided to take a few extra days of holidays after the wedding so we could make the most of being somewhere so beautiful! We stayed in 2 places during our week in Fiji, both on the coral coast. The first hotel was the Warwick for the wedding, and the second place was a group of private villas called Maui Palms.
Since it’s winter in Australia at the moment, we were so excited to be somewhere that was always warm. I was mesmerised by the crystal clear water which looked like glass, all the colourful fish swimming in and around the coral when we spent 2 whole days just snorkelling and the vibrant sunsets.
I still love being able to document my travels for YouTube as I love watching back and seeing all the places I visited. This time though, I wanted to try something new and incorporate more teaching into my vlogs, so they are still interesting and educational for you guys to watch! Let me know what you think of this new format :) I have my second and final vlog from Fiji coming this Saturday!
The majority of these photos were edited with my Florence Lightroom Preset as I found the vibrant colours with a film-like look suite the photos from Fiji perfectly. I used a few other presets throughout the blog post too, which I will leave links for in the description in case you’re interested to see what photos were edited with what presets!
